Tip
One: Sell
stuff with your artwork on CafePress.com.
You
won't get rich -- but CafePress is a fun, low risk way to play around
with selling creative work as commercial products: www.cafepress.com
Upload
your artwork and create a small selection of items (T-shirts, mugs,
hats, bags, etc). When someone places an order, CafePress will manufacture
and ship the product, collect the money, take out their portion,
and send you the rest.
A
couple examples of how other designers have used CafePress help
demonstrate the idea. First, check out a CafePress site featuring
the art of local illustrator Leslie Newman:

Example
number two: An online shop for Susan Kare who started her career
designing icons for Apple Computer. She's re-purposed an old collection
of her icon creations as a line of T-shirts:

If
your team uses CafePress, please email us at tips@creativetechs.com.
I'll update this tip article with all the local examples we can
find.

This is a tip we've been wanting to run for a while. It seems appropriate
to throw it in with the last minute flurry of gift buying that might
be going on this week. On a somewhat related note, SVC is offering
a free seminar in March titled: "Making
Money While You Sleep" on the topic of royalties and product
licensing.]
[Note:
For writers and musicians, CafePress also lets you sell your own
books
and CDs.
We've got a tip planned around this topic someday in the future.]
