CreativeTechs QuickTips #56 Week of August 29, 2005

Tip One: Copy HTML color values from Photoshop.

Want to get the web hexadecimal color value from a logo or image in Photoshop? Hold down the Control-key while you click on an area with the eyedropper tool and choose "Copy Color as HTML" from the resulting pop-up menu. A text string will be copied to the clipboard that looks something like: COLOR="#2ED322"

To see your color code, jump back to the finder and choose Edit > Show Clipboard, or just paste the text into any text editor.

This feature would be more useful if Photoshop only copied the actual hex number to memory and left out the "COLOR=" portion. However this is a fun little trick that most people probably don't know.

Tip Two: Increase Stability w/ Dual Internet Connections.

Does your creative team rely on Internet communication to keep the business running? If any interruption in email causes major headaches, you might consider adding a second Internet connection for increased speed and stability.

There are routers available that support dual Internet connections. For example, your office might have a primary high-speed connection, with a second inexpensive connection as backup. (A common example would be to install both Cable and DSL Internet connections simultaneously -- making it less likely that both connections would be down at the same time.)

We can recommend the Linksys RV042 and RV082 routers:

Linksys RV042 Router

Linksys RV082 Router

Both routers let you connect a backup Internet connection to insure that your office is never down. Or alternatively, use both connections at the same time, and let the router balance your office's requirements between them for maximum bandwidth efficiency. Both have excellent web-based administration tools. (We prefer the RV082 because the larger size allows it to be mounted in a standard network rack.)
