Up for Weekly Tips
If
you are running Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) you can create a keyboard
shortcut for your Mac to read any selected text out loud. Open the
Speech preference pane in System Preferences. Click on the Spoken
User Interface tab, and look under the section called Other Spoken
Items. Turn on a feature called "Selected Text when the Key
Is Pressed," and choose a key command to use. Now, if you select
a block of type in any Mac OS X program, you just press your secret
keyboard command to have the computer read it out loud. This is
a great proofreading technique for typo-prone people (like myself).
